Smell, Look, Feel, Listen, Taste!
Come to the IGM and find out what’s in the yellow boxes!
Learn the history of the old Gasworks through the magical world of the senses.
The Industrial Gas Museum in Technopolis City of Athens is introducing a unique- regarding the Greek museums- tour for the senses and is turning the learning process into an exciting experience!
The IGM has been supporting the creative learning for all age groups since the beginning of its operation in 2013. By doing an important update, it introduces 7 more stops, linked to the 5 senses. that will be attached to the existing museum tour: an innovative tour accessible to all visitors…even the youngest ones!
Seven new “interactive spots” with the form of yellow boxes have been added to the museum’s tour. It is an alternative tour where the visitors have to participate in order to “discover” the information. They can smell, see, feel, hear…even taste the history of the Gasworks. The tour for the senses is suitable for families with children aged 3 years old and above and of course anyone who is looking for an unforgettable experience in the Industrial Gas Museum.
Young and old have the chance to see how the machines operate as well as the various stages of the gas production line and the industrial environment of not only the Gasworks but the area of Gazi as well. You will be able to listen to the sound of the coal-digging and also the sound of the bell that informed the workers that they had to go back to work. Moreover, you can touch the coke or feel the heat inside the retorts. Are you wondering how were the gasholders functioning and how did the tank become full or even how were the retorts working in order to eventually illuminate the city? The answers to these questions can be found in the yellow boxes! On the other hand, your sense of smell will be triggered through three odors of the area of Gazi that were typical almost 100 years ago. Finally, at the end of the tour you will find out what the workers were drinking every day and you will also “taste” it.
The new tour for the senses is making the history of the old Gasworks even more fun to learn! A unique and unforgettable experience of touring the Industrial Gas Museum with all your senses awaits you! Do you dare follow it?
